Get to know the sacred ice vertical in the ice climbing gorge Mlačca in Mojstrana. If you like the feeling of crampons on your feet, an ice axe in your hands, frozen water and smaller or larger verticals climbing on thick cold ice, you are ready for your next adventure.

The Mlačca gorge is a great position for both beginners and those who have already climbed in ice. The gorge is located in Mojstrana and stands at the foot of Mežakla. It is about 200 m long and up to 45 m high. You can choose between easier and more difficult artificially frozen waterfalls or routes that are created, so you will definitely be satisfied. Mlačca is a real ice climbing kindergarten and is unique in Slovenia.

The gorge is managed by the Society for the Development of Ice Climbing, where you can also find current information on when the gorge is officially open.

The gorge is also open in the afternoon and evening, and ice climbing is possible under floodlights every day until 10:00 p.m., when the gorge is of course open.

During the Christmas and New Year holidays, they also organize a live nativity scene, and a tour of the ice kingdom is also available. You can find more information at the link.

From the highway, take the Jesenice West exit and continue along the main road on the left in the direction of Mojstrana. At the first entrance to the village, turn left and continue past the ski resort and in a slight right turn, turn up a steep narrow slope (direction Radovna). After the slope up to a slight leveling at the end of it, when there is a left turn up, turn right down onto the macadam road (signpost for the tennis court). When you reach the leveling, turn left and after about 50m there is a parking lot.

From the parking lot, it takes about 3 minutes to walk straight through the forest and you will reach the gorge.

Way back is the same as access.

Given the different difficulty levels of the route, the ice climbing area is suitable for beginners, younger climbers, as well as for more experienced climbers. Sector 1 on the left is easier, while sector 2 on the right is more difficult. The ice climbing area is usually open from mid-December to the end of February, but it all depends on the low temperatures, which are a condition for the gorge to freeze over.
