Urbas Rock is a smaller climbing area located above the village of Dovje and behind the impressive Bvaščeva Skala, which resembles the famous Dolomite peaks of the Tre Cime. The climbing site was long a well-kept local secret, but in recent years, more than half of the routes have been newly equipped. With an excellent sunny location, it is suitable for climbing in spring or autumn, and for the most resilient climbers, even on sunny and dry winter days. In summer, the tree canopies provide much-needed shade. The climbing area is suitable for beginners and younger climbers, with a few challenging routes to spice things up.
From the highway, take the Jesenice West exit and continue on the main road. Leave the main road at the traffic light and turn right towards the village of Dovje. Drive through the village towards the northeast, following signs for Kepa. When you reach the gravel road, continue straight ahead until you cross a small bridge over the Mlinca River. Immediately after the bridge, you will find a parking area that accommodates about five cars.
From the parking lot, it takes about 5 minutes of walking to reach the climbing area. Continue up the road (uphill) and soon turn left to follow a steeper path up the hill. Be attentive as you will soon need to turn right off the path. When the trees are bare, the rock is easily visible; in summer, good orientation is necessary.
The descent follows the same route as the ascent.
The climbing area is suitable for beginners and younger climbers, as well as more experienced ones, with routes rated up to 7c. The majority of routes are between 3 and 6c+. Specifically, there are 12 routes rated 3-4, 14 routes rated 5a-5c+, 12 routes rated 6a-6c+, and 5 routes rated 7a-7c. The sectors are divided into A and B: A/I - A/III, B/I, and B/II. The climbing site is suitable for visits from early spring to late autumn. In summer, the forest provides shade, and in winter, it can be enjoyed on dry sunny days.
