Today, the places below Triglav are known primarily as an excellent starting point for mountain trips to the high mountains of the Julian Alps, especially to our highest mountain, to which the three valleys of Vrata, Kot and Krma lead. But during the early 19th century, these places were also strongly associated with heavy industry. A cement factory operated in Mojstrana. The location is called “Fabrka” today and we will see it on our way. Part of the route to Lake Kreda follows the Technological Education Trail, which is dedicated to the memory of the Cement Workshop, which operated from 1893 to 1932. Top quality cement was installed in the Suez Canal, Singapore Fortress and many other places around the world.
Lake Kreda is an artificial lake and was excavated during the operation of the Cement Plant, as there were large reserves of chalk, which was the best raw material for making cement. In the 1980s, water diving was also organized on a special ski jump on this lake. The lake was also the annual bathing place of the villagers at that time. Today, the lake is a kind of swamp reserve for frogs and other inhabitants of the swamp world. This will be followed by an ascent to Kosmač saddle (847 m), where there used to be a coal mill and where a beautiful view of the Kot and Krma valleys opens up on the meadow .
Above this pass, the slope of Črna Gora (1350 m) rises quite steeply into the sky. When we reach its top, we are at the beginning of a long forest ridge, which climbs further over Požar (1543 m) to Mlinarice (1780 m). However, there the forested ridge turns into a rocky one and winds all the way to Visoka Vrbanova špica (2405 m).
An unmarked path from the pass runs through the forest in the first part along a forest trail, which then turns into a path. The latter then climbs to the top of Črna gora (1350 m) in four so-called jumps with intermediate, more flat parts (plateaus).
At the top we will be greeted by a bivouac at Hanžek, which unfortunately is deteriorating and is no longer in its function. In addition, on its northern side we will have a fantastic view of the Vrata valley, where we will see the Peričnik waterfall below, as well as the peaks of the Julian Alps: Sleme (2077 m), Kukova špica (2427 m), Škrnatarica (2458 m) and along the ridge all the way to Stenar (2501m).
The descent back to Kosmač saddle follows the same route. From there, the descent partly takes place on an asphalt road, and in the lower part we join the old trim track built in 1977 under the auspices of the then sports association.
Followed by a descent through the gorge Kloma or the better known gorge “Mlačca”. Here, the tireless Pavel Skumavc and his team from the Ice Kingdom organize Living Cribs in Ice and artificial icy waterfalls every year, where future ice climbers can train. From there it is a short distance to the Slovenian Alpine Museum, and we will walk through the above-mentioned area of "Fabrka" (former area of the cement plant), where today, there is a residential complex.
Slovenian Alpine Museum (650 m) - Lake Kreda (730 m) - Kosmač Saddle (847 m) - Črna Gora (1350 m) - Kosmač Saddle (847 m) - Mlačca Gorge (700 m) - Slovenian Alpine Museum (650 m)
At the Slovenian Alpine Museum (hereinafter SAM) - cross the footbridge over Triglavska Bistrica and on the other side, turn right towards the west, heading towards the Vrata Valley. Soon, we come to another bridge – the Green Bridge. We continue straight along the Technological Learning Path in the direction of Lake Kreda (path no. 15), along the river Triglavska Bistrica. At the crossroads, turn left onto a slope and soon reach Lake Kreda. From here, follow the right bank uphill to the crossroads of the forest trail. Here, turn left uphill in a southerly direction past Poldov rovt (Polda Meadow). After the trench, turn left at the fork and come to a distinct ridge that takes us in a south-westerly direction to a level area above Požar's trench. Here, at the first trail junction, we turn left and continue forward until a large clearing opens up. Here, turn right onto the trail, and along the upper edge of the clearing, we come to a small clearing in the middle of the forest. There, a wide trail opens and takes us downwards and then on towards Kosmač Saddle. About 150m before the pass, we turn right (signposted by men on stumps) onto a new trail, which will take us on to Črna Gora.
Follow it straight up as the trail gradually becomes steeper. We stay on the same trail all the time, with no branches to the right or left. The trail then slowly turns to the right, leading us to a forest ridge. Follow this ridge straight up in a westerly direction. The ridge then turns into a steep slope, and the path ascends over the slope in five switchbacks to the first plateau. We cross it to the right in a north-westerly direction, and at the end, we ascend over its edge, over a short jump, and come to a new plateau. We cross the latter in a westerly direction, ascending slowly. Towards the end, the slope steepens again, and the path leads us through steep switchbacks to the back plateau. We cross this plateau in a westerly direction and finally ascend. The path slowly turns in a north-westerly direction and leads to the back plateau, where we soon see the bivouac.
The descent back follows the same path to Kosmač saddle.
From the pass, turn left down the asphalt road towards Mojstrana. After the water reservoir, follow the asphalt road for approximately 300m, then turn left onto the forest trail. Cross the stream bed and immediately head right down, following the stream bed along the left bank, where you spot the old path where the trim track took place. The path leads us to the Mlačca Gorge (Kloma). Continue to the end of the gorge and then turn right onto the field. Follow the south side of the tennis courts to the stream, and continue along it down to the asphalt road. Cross the Green Bridge over the river Bistrica, and through 'Fabrka' to the main road. Turn right and continue to the Slovenian Alpine Museum.
