Triglav is a 2864-meter-high mountain located in the heart of the Julian Alps. With this elevation, Triglav is the highest mountain in Slovenia and also the highest peak in the Julian Alps. At the summit stands the Aljaž Tower, erected in 1895 by Jakob Aljaž, the then parish priest of Dovje. The Aljaž Tower can shelter up to 5 people in case of a storm. Today, the Aljaž Tower is protected as a cultural monument and plays a significant role in preserving cultural heritage.

Triglav was first ascended on August 26th, 1778, by four brave men, whose monument stands in Bohinj. These brave men were Luka Korošec, Matevž Kos, Štefan Rožič, and Lovrenc Willomitzer. From the summit of Triglav, there is a beautiful view that extends from the Adriatic Sea, across the Dolomites and High Tauern, to the Karawanks, Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Pohorje, and almost all of Slovenia to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps.

Vrata, one of the three glacial valleys below Triglav (neighboring valleys are Krma and Kot), is undoubtedly the largest tourist attraction in the villages under Triglav. The mighty North Triglav Wall dominates here, so grand it is simply referred to with a capital letter as "The Wall." In the middle of the valley, you will encounter the charming Peričnik Waterfall, which, with a total height of 68 meters, is one of the larger waterfalls in Slovenia. The lower waterfall is 52 meters high, and the upper one is 16 meters. An excellently maintained path leads to them from the Koča pri Peričniku. A special feature is that this is the only waterfall in Slovenia where you can walk behind the waterfall and get truly stunning photos.

Slovenian Alpine Museum (public transport to Vrata Valley) - Parking lot in Vrata before the barrier (940 m) - Aljaž Lodge - Through Prag - Triglav Lodge at Kredarica (2515 m) - Triglav (2864 m) - Kredarica (2515 m) - Aljaž Lodge (940 m).

From the Slovenian Alpine Museum, you head to the nearby bus stop and take public transport to the parking lot in Vrata. From the parking lot, continue on the gravel road, which, after 3 minutes of walking, brings you to a crossroads near the Aljaž Lodge.

From there, continue straight in the direction of Triglav, Luknja, and Pogačnik Lodge (right Škrlatica) on a wide path that goes past the chapel (on the right side) and Aljaž Lodge (on the left side) into a strip of forest. The wide tourist and walking path leads past the winter bivouac out of the forest, where you will see the famous rock (a monument dedicated to the fallen partisan mountaineers).

Continue straight (left Tominšek Route) on the path that returns to the forest and brings you to the next crossroads, where you continue straight (right Stenar, Pogačnik Lodge). The path then ascends alongside a torrent to a crossroads where you turn left onto the path through Prag (straight Luknja and Plemenice) and after a few steps of descent, you cross the torrent.

On the other side, the path quickly leads to a steep section where spikes assist you. With the help of these aids, the path takes you to a higher level into a less demanding part. Continue ascending along the path, which occasionally offers beautiful views and is bordered by dwarf pine. The easy part soon becomes more demanding again, and steel cables help you walk more safely. The most challenging part of the Prag route follows. Using pegs and a steel cable, you climb a nearly vertical 15-meter-high chimney. The difficulties then slowly disappear, and the Tominšek Route joins us from the left. A few steps further, we see a pleasant spring where we can rest.

Continuing, the path soon brings us to the next crossroad, where you turn right towards Kredarica (left Stanič Lodge). The path ahead goes through the Triglav glacial basins, where we might have some orientation problems (especially in fog). The steepness of the path gradually increases again, and steel cables help us in places. The steepness then eases, and the path leads you to Triglav Lodge at Kredarica, where you need to climb slightly to reach it.

At the lodge, the signs for Triglav direct you slightly down to a small saddle between Kredarica and Triglav. Here, on the right side, you can see the remains of the Triglav Glacier (Green Snow). Ascend alongside the glacier to the entrance of the climbing section. At the large marker visible from afar, you will see a signboard with warning that a very demanding secured mountain path follows. This path immediately climbs steeply, and spikes and steel cables assist you. After a half-hour climb, the path from Planika joins from the left. A few steps further, you step onto the indistinct summit of Little Triglav, from which you descend slightly. An exposed but well-secured path along the ridge follows. In the final part, the path climbs steeper and leads to Stanič Shelter, which is 30 meters off the path. The gradient then eases and the scenic path leads you to the summit of Triglav, where the Aljaž Tower stands. The return follows the same route.
