Russian Cross (3rd serpentine of the Vršič road) (1038 m) - Planina v Klinu (985 m) - Hut in Krnica (1113 m) - Under the Kriška Wall (1940 m)

Between the mighty peaks of Razor (2601 m) and Prisojnik (2547 m) on one side, and Škrlatica (2740 m), Rakova Špica (2545 m), and Dovški Gamsovec (2440 m) on the other, we find the Krnica Valley. This mountain valley near Kranjska Gora starts at Jasna Lake and continues along the first kilometers of the road leading to Vršič. It then slowly ascends towards Križ (2410 m). Along the way, we pass the hut in Krnica, which is occasionally open in winter months (e.g., on weekends). We will not reach any summits during the tour, but we will be rewarded with an easier access and a pleasant ski tour, which, due to the north-facing terrain, can be enjoyed from early winter to late spring. The views will also not disappoint us.

Russian Cross (3rd serpentine of the Vršič road) (1038 m) - Planina v Klinu (985 m) - Hut in Krnica (1113 m) - Under the Kriška Wall (1940 m)

We head onto a rough gravel road, which immediately starts descending moderately. After a few minutes of descent through the forest, the path flattens out and brings us to a parking lot near the dry Pišnica stream. Drinking water is available by the parking lot. Before the stream, we have the option to cross via a new wooden bridge on our left side (the old one was washed away by high waters). After crossing, we follow the frequent markers that guide us sharply to the right, away from the private hut on our left, towards the wide path leading to the Planina v Klinu plateau. This variant is especially suitable when there is a lot of water, making crossing via the bridge difficult. Alternatively, we can continue straight and cross the stream over a narrow bridge laid across the rocks in the streambed.

Just after crossing the stream, the path slightly turns left and leads us out of the forest onto the vast grassy slopes of the Planina v Klinu plateau, where we will notice a larger, older hut on the right. As we descend along the path past the hut, we reach a small, well-maintained memorial park dedicated to mountaineers who lost their lives in the surrounding mountains (Mali Tamar). The path leads past this monument on the right side for just a few tens of meters, then brings us to the road that leads to Krnica from the bridge over the Velika Pišnica, below the former Erika Hotel. We join this road and continue on it to the right, but only for a short time. When the road reaches the vast dry torrential streambed, which stretches all the way to the opposite side of the valley, the road crosses a part of a stony deposit. Immediately after this crossing, we must be cautious about a marked trail branching off from the road, which directs us right into a sparse forest.

From here, the trail continues uphill through the forest, mostly soft underfoot, though occasionally a bit rocky. After about 20 minutes of walking on this sparsely marked trail, we exit the forest and join the road leading to the hut in Krnica just a few tens of meters before the hut from the left. We continue along the marked path towards the Kriška Wall. After leaving the forest, we head towards Razor (or west), gradually gaining altitude. The steeper section runs through a characteristic gully that opens into wide slopes. A short descent follows, and then the final steep section to the head of the valley. The descent follows the direction of ascent. Due to the width of the slopes, there are many variations, so we adjust to the snow conditions. We must not forget that there is a short ascent to the parking lot at Planina v Klinu waiting for us at the end.
